The most important thing in a criminal case is:
DO NOT TALK TO ANYONE ABOUT ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE SPOKEN WITH A LAWYER!!
The only person that you can discuss your case with and know that those conversations will never be talked about, is your lawyer. Do not discuss your case with family, friends, co-workers, or co-defendants. Do not answer questions from the police until you have spoken with a lawyer. Even if you have to go through the process of being arrested, there is rarely anything you can say to law enforcement that is going to help you if they have taken you into custody. Once they read you your Miranda Rights, EXERCISE THOSE RIGHTS--KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!
